Educator

James Slimings is currently Director of Performance at All Saints Catholic College, overseeing the instrumental provision and building a culture of excellence in the heart of Ladbroke Grove. Over his tenure, James has helped to grow the department to delivering over 150 instrumental lessons a week over 20 instruments. He has started a Symphony Orchestra, Barbershop Group, and achieved a 100% pass rate with ABRSM exams across the deparmtent.

At All Saints, James has also forged strong relationships with Opera Holland Park following on from his production of Le Nozze Di Figaro in a truncated hour long version sung in Italian by secondary aged students. The annual Musical Theatre performance has also grown in popularity, with over 120 students involved in Guys and Dolls in 2025. He is part of the 2025/26 Teach First Cohort teaching Music, Drama, and Oracy.

With Hertfordshire Music Service, James is the Musical Director of Hertfordshire County Youth Choir, a choir that has doubled in size in his tenure. He has delviered CPD for singing teachers, and conducted Hertfordshire County Brass Band as part of their 2025 programme. He has also worked with the Hertfordshire Schools Gala at the Royal Albert Hall, conducting the massed secondary choirs, and leading CPD sessions for primary teachers.

A specialist in the changing adolescent voice, James also works as Lower Voice Coach for Finchley Childrens Music Group, and has devliered CPD on this subject for the Princes Teaching Institute, as well as working with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

He has previously lectured at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the BEd course, teaching Vocal Skills for the Classroom, and on the BMus course teaching conducting and Effective Practice Techniques.
